Introduction of Singing Bowls in Music Industry

Singing bowl is an inverted bowl with its rim turned upwards. The musical notes are produced by rotating a mallet around the bowls rim. It is also known as Himalayan bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, resting bowls, standing bells, Tibet bowls, etc.

When did Singing Bowl come into existence?
In the primeval era, the singing bowls were referred to as Himalayan Bowls because they were present throughout the Himalayan stretch of Nepal, China, Tibet and India. There is no specific historical record about singing bowls but some research and studies, point to the fact that Himalayan bowls came into existence in 8th Century A.D. in China.

Some of them are: Tibetan Bells II (1978), Yamantaka with Mickey Hart (1982), Tibetan Bells III (1988), and Tibetan Bells IV (1991). The albums were considered as music from another dimension, to be explored on the way of spirituality.

Their latest usage in the music industry was witnessed in the music composition named Longplayer (A self extending music composition) by Jem Finer. It was composed in 2002 by arranging 234 tuned standing bells.
